Ingredients

Cake

Buttercream Frosting

  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Yellow and red gel food color from 1 box Betty Crocker™ Classic Gel Food Color

Decorations

  • 9 mini chocolate eggs
  • 2 oz pink cotton candy

Instructions

  • Step
    1

    Heat the oven to 350°F.

  • Step
    2

Grease 1 (12-inch) round cake pan and line with parchment paper. Prepare cake batter using cake mix, water, oil, and eggs as directed on cake mix box. Bake for 26 to 31 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pan. Cool completely on cooling rack.

  • Step
    3

In a large bowl, mix softened butter until creamy. Then, sift powdered sugar one cup at a time into the butter. Add vanilla extract and thoroughly mix. Set aside 1/2 cup of frosting. Add a couple drops of yellow food color to the remaining frosting, and mix until fully incorporated.

  • Step
    4

Divide the reserved 1/2 cup of frosting in half. Dye half of it pink with a couple drops of red food color. Add the pink and uncolored frosting into 2 separate piping bags.

  • Step
    5

From cooled cake, cut out 6 (3-inch) circles. Frost the tops of 3 cake layers; add the remaining 3 cake layers on top.

  • Step
    6

Evenly cover cakes with yellow frosting. Using the piping bags, pipe dots onto the side of the cakes to create daisies.

  • Step
    7

Place about 1/3 of the cotton candy in a circle on top of each cake to make the shape of a nest. Add 3 chocolate eggs on top of each cotton candy "nest."
