We’ve discovered the wonderful world of chip-less chocolate chip cookies, and our recipe might just make you reconsider the world-famous classic.

We all know and love the classic chocolate chip cookie: gooey, melty, and packed with sweet morsels. But what happens when we skip the chips? Meet the innovative chocolate chipless cookie. This treat offers that same velvety dough, sugary sweetness and addictive chewiness, sans chips. It’s the same robust taste executed with a twist, making it an intriguing alternative to our traditional chocolate chip cookie.

There are several reasons for choosing a chip-less cookie over a chocolate chip cookie. Maybe you prefer your sweet treats a tad less sweet, or perhaps the smooth texture the chip-less cookie offers? Maybe the cookie itself, rather than the chips, is actually your favorite part of the classic CCC. Whatever may be your reason, these chip-less cookies will provide an unforgettable experience.

Why is our recipe the best? At Betty Crocker, we believe in creativity that respects tradition. Our recipe delivers that classic cookie chewiness and sweetness you love, even without the typical star ingredient. We've perfected the balance between the cookie's taste and texture, resulting in a delightful new dessert that’s taking the cookie world by storm.

How to Make Chipless Chocolate Chip Cookies

Our chocolate chipless cookies come together just as easily as a traditional chocolate chip cookie, and dare we say they rival each other in taste! For the full details on how to make these sweet treats, refer to the recipe below. In general, here’s how you make them.

Mix the Dough

Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl, then to a separate bowl add butter, sugar and brown sugar. Beat the butter and sugars with a hand mixer, then beat in the egg and vanilla. Finally, stir in the flour mixture. The dough will be stiff—this is normal!

Shape and Bake

Using a spoon, a cookie scoop or your hands, drop the dough in rounded tablespoonfuls on a cookie sheet. Bake until golden brown on the edges (leave the centers soft so you get that desired crisp-chewy combo).

Cool and Enjoy

Let the cookies cool for a minute on the baking sheets, then transfer them to a cooling rack. They’ll be fully cooled and ready to eat in about 20 minutes (if you can wait that long!).

Chocolate Chipless Cookie Ingredients

Like our chocolate chip cookies, our chipless cookies are also made with accessible, pantry-friendly ingredients that many bakers already have on hand. Here’s what you need to make this cookie magic.

All-Purpose Flour: Flour is a key ingredient for cookies, as it helps bind ingredients together and gives cookies their shape and texture.

Baking Soda: Leaveners like baking soda are important for many cookie recipes so you can bake up a cookie that’s puffed and not too dense.

Salt and Vanilla: In general, just a little bit of both ingredients is all you need to add flavor to your cookie dough.

Sugars: This recipe calls for brown sugar and granulated sugar, and together the two add that classic cookie sweetness with the extra bonus of a soft-and-chewy texture.

Butter: A cookie baked with butter is a tender cookie with good taste, thanks to the fat and distinct flavors found in butter.

Egg: Just one egg is all you need for this recipe to help the ingredients bind together during baking and gives them added moisture and structure.

Storing Homemade Chipless Chocolate Chip Cookies

We’d be surprised if you have any leftovers once you serve up these delicious chocolate chip less cookies, but if you do, they’re easy to store!

At Room Temperature: To keep your extra cookies at their best taste and texture, store them stacked at room temperature in an airtight container or in a resealable food-storage plastic bag for up to one week.

In the Fridge: If you crave cold cookies, you can also store these treats in an airtight container or resealable food-storage plastic bag in the refrigerator for up to one week. Note that they will not stay as soft and chewy when stored chilled.

In the Freezer: If you want to freeze your homemade chipless chocolate chip cookies, allow them to cool completely, then stack them between layers of waxed paper or parchment paper in an airtight container or plastic freezer bag. Freeze for up to two months. Thaw the cookies, covered, at room temperature for up to two hours.

Can I Freeze the Cookie Dough? You sure can! Freeze individual unbaked dough balls on cookie sheets. Once the dough balls are frozen, place them in plastic freezer bags and freeze them for up to two months. When you’re ready to bake, take the frozen cookie dough balls from the freezer and place them on a cookie sheet. Let them sit at room temperature for 15 minutes as you preheat the oven. Note that the bake time might need to be adjusted slightly, since you’re baking from frozen.
