Ingredients

  • Easy Cocktail Sauce, if desired
  • 4 quarts water
  • 16 live hard-shell blue crabs

Steps

  • 1
    Make Cocktail Sauce.
  • 2
    Heat water to boiling in stockpot or canner. Drop 4 crabs at a time into water. Cover and heat to boiling; reduce heat to low. Simmer 10 minutes; drain. Repeat with remaining crabs.

    Follow directions for How to Eat Crabmeat. Serve with Cocktail Sauce.

    The melted butter served at many restaurants is often “drawn” butter. Drawn butter is made by melting butter and collecting the clear oil from the water and milk solids. Melted butter is fine to use at home and may actually have more flavor than drawn butter.
