Ingredients

Brownies

Buttercream

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • Pinch of coarse kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Green gel food color from 1 box Betty Crocker™ Classic Gel Food Color, as desired

Decoration

  • 3 chocolate sandwich cookies, finely crushed
  • 1 graham cracker, finely crushed
  • Fall sprinkles, as desired
  • 16 candy pumpkins

Steps

  • 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the brownie mix, water, vegetable oil, and egg. Add the chocolate syrup packet, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt, and whisk until combined. Using a spatula, fold in the dark chocolate chips.
  • 2
Line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper. (Use clips to help keep it in place while adding the brownie batter.) Pour the batter into the baking pan, and evenly smooth it out using an offset spatula.
  • 3
Bake for 25 minutes. Let cool completely before frosting (about 90 minutes).
  • 4
With an electric mixer using the paddle attachment, beat the butter and pinch of coarse kosher salt until light and fluffy. Reduce the mixer to low and slowly add powdered sugar. Add milk and vanilla. Mix until fully combined. Add the desired amount of green gel food color. Mix until light and fluffy. Set aside a small amount of frosting for adding pumpkin vines, if desired. Apply the remaining frosting on top of the brownies using an offset spatula.
  • 5
Make three or four pumpkin patch rows using finely crushed chocolate cookies and graham cracker. Add the sprinkles on each row, top with the candy pumpkins, and add pumpkin vines, if desired.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I decorate these festive brownies?

There are lots of great ways you can decorate these! I like to finely crush 3 chocolate sandwich cookies and 1 graham cracker in a ziplock bag to make the pumpkin patch “dirt.”
