Bulgogi, which literally means “fire meat,” is a popular Korean dish made with thin slices of marinated beef sirloin steak or pork grilled or stir-fried. The flavor is a delectable balance of sweet, savory, and a little salty. If you’re a fan of sweet-and-sour Asian-inspired dishes, you’ll love this Korean-inspired take on dinner. From Betty Crocker Make It in One cookbook, our quick and easy version starts with beef sirloin steak, so there’s no need to marinate it first to make it tender. Paired with ready-to-eat carrots and broccoli florets, there is hardly any chopping required. And starting with a package of Korean stir-fry simmer sauce means this dish is ready to devour in just 20 minutes. That’s faster than take out!

Like most meals in Korea, this quick-and-delicious supper is served with kimchi. What is kimchi? It’s a flavor-packed, spicy-hot condiment usually made with a combination of veggies, such as cabbage and carrots, and enhanced with the addition of flavorings including ginger and garlic. The ingredients are pickled together before they are fermented. Kimchi recipes range from region to region as well as what is available seasonally. You can usually find kimchi in the refrigerated produce section of larger grocery stores, near the sauerkraut and pickles. If not available there, check Asian markets, farmers markets, or Asian restaurants frequently make their own kimchi to sell.
