- 1/3 cup boiling water
- 2 medium unpeeled cooking apples, chopped (2 cups)
- 1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
- 1 cup Gold Medal™ whole wheat flour
- 1/3 cup canola oil
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 eggs
- 1/3 cup finely chopped nuts
- 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar

Step1Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray; sprinkle with flour.

Step2In large bowl, pour boiling water over apples. Add remaining ingredients except nuts and brown sugar. Beat with electric mixer on low speed 1 minute, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan.

Step3In small bowl, mix nuts and 2 tablespoons brown sugar; sprinkle over batter.

Step4Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
