Slow-Simmered Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound bulk Italian pork sausage
  • 2 medium carrots, finely chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped (1 cup)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 16 ounces uncooked spaghetti
  • Shredded fresh Parmesan cheese, if desired

Instructions

    Cook beef and sausage in 10-inch skillet over medium heat, stirring frequently, until beef is brown and sausage is no longer pink, about 8 minutes; drain.

    Mix beef mixture and remaining ingredients except spaghetti and Parmesan cheese in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker.

    Cover and cook on low heat setting 8 to 10 hours.

    About 20 minutes before serving, cook and drain spaghetti as directed on package. Serve sauce with hot cooked spaghetti and Parmesan cheese.
