Hazelnut Chocolate Cookie Balls

From our Betty Crocker Cookies cookbook, we love these rich, indulgent chocolate cookies with hazelnut spread. Add them to your Christmas cookie tray or any time during the year when you're craving indulgent chocolate treats you can just pop in your mouth. They would also make a fabulous little gift (and we can guarantee no one would want to regift these delightful treats).

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons hazelnut spread with cocoa (from 13-oz jar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ All Purpose Flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetended baking cocoa
  • 3/4 cup hazelnuts (filberts), toasted, skins removed

Chocolate Icing

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Step

    Heat oven to 350° F. In large bowl, mix butter, powdered sugar, hazelnut spread, vanilla and salt with a spoon until well mixed. Stir in flour and cocoa until well mixed.

    Shape about 1 1/2 teaspoonfuls dough around 1 hazelnut, covering completely, into 1-inch balls. On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls 1 inch apart. Finely chop remaining hazelnuts; set aside.

    Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until set. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.

    In small microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate Icing ingredients uncovered on High 30 to 60 seconds, stirring once, or until chips are softened and can be stirred smooth. Spoon about 1 teaspoon chocolate onto cookies; sprinkle with about 1/2 teaspoon of the chopped hazelnuts. Let stand about 30 minutes or until icing is set.
