Calling all eggnog fans! These eggnog spritz cookies are a cinch to make. Surprise! No actual eggnog is needed to make them. They get their delicious flavor from rum extract and nutmeg.

Rich, buttery eggnog spritz cookies are a twist off the traditional Christmas spritz cookie. Unlike classic butter cookies, the dough is pressed through a spritz cookie gun using any of a number of discs to make various shaped cookies.

Eggnog Spritz cookies are very easy to make, with just a few ingredients. Press it through the spritz gun onto the cookie sheet. Or you may have handled the dough too much in getting it into the spritz cookie gun, by warming it with your hands.

Either the flour was overmeasured (see how to measure ingredients) when making the egg nog spritz cookies or the butter wasn’t soft enough when added to the dough.

How an I ake less of a mess when decorating cookies?

Frosting drips and sprinkles bounce…usually all over your counter and floor! To tame the mess, place a cooling rack in a rimmed baking sheet (rimmed on all 4 sides). The baking sheet will catch the drips and contain the sprinkles.

Icing can be deceptive! It may appear dry on the top but hasn’t completely dried underneath the surface. It may require a few hours to be completely dry before you can store the iced cookies.   • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon rum extract
  • Betty Crocker™ red and green decorating sugars, if desired

    Heat oven to 375°F. In large bowl, stir cookie mix, butter, egg, flour, 1 teaspoon extract and the nutmeg until soft dough forms.

    Fit cookie press with desired template. Fill cookie press with cookie dough; press cookies onto ungreased cookie sheets.

    Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely, about 20 minutes.

    In small bowl, stir powdered sugar, milk and 1/4 teaspoon extract until desired consistency. Drizzle over cookies. Sprinkle cookies with colored sugar.
