Cream Cheese-Filled Batter-Dipped French Toast

Ingredients
- 5 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup orange marmalade
- 16 diagonally cut slices (1/2 inch thick) French bread
- 1 cup Original Bisquick™ mix
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- Maple-flavored syrup, if desired

Step1In small bowl, mix cream cheese and marmalade until blended. Spread 8 slices of the bread with cream cheese mixture. Top each with 1 of the remaining bread slices, making 8 sandwiches.

Step2In shallow dish or pie pan, stir Bisquick mix, milk, cinnamon, orange peel, vanilla and egg with whisk or fork until blended.

Step3Heat nonstick griddle to 350°F or nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dip each sandwich into batter mixture, turning to coat both sides; drain excess batter in dish. Cook on hot griddle or skillet 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Sprinkle each sandwich with powdered sugar; serve with syrup.
