5 Great Thanksgiving Wines

Created January 10, 2017
Take the guesswork out of pairing with our favorite wines that go well with everything from turkey and gravy to cranberries and pumpkin pie.
5 Thanksgiving Wines

The bird is carved, the potatoes are mashed and the pie is cooling on the counter—now what kind of wine do you serve? We asked Betty drinks contributor Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl and a few experts at our favorite local wine shops what they’ll be serving on the biggest food holiday of the year. Here’s what they had to say:

Rombauer Carneros Chardonnay, $35
The American gold standard of buttery chardonnays. Creamy vanilla and gorgeously velvety caramel notes highlight the pretty white-peach fruit of the wine, like silk showcasing a jewel.

Landmark Overlook Sonoma County Chardonnay, $25
Brioche, cream, white chocolate and pear make this an elegant wine, both crowd-pleaser and connoisseur-delighter.

Tessellae "Old Vines" Côtes du Roussillon, $13
Not as heavy as a cabernet (there’s a lot of food to be consumed, after all!) or as jammy as a zinfandel—this blend of 40% syrah, 40% grenache, 15% mourvedre and 5% grenache gris (a rare white grape), doesn’t disappoint.

Belle Glos Meiomi Pinot Noir, $20
Pinot noir is far and away the most popular red wine to grace Thanksgiving tables across the country, and we’re crazy about this one—pronounced “may
-oh-mee,” which means “coast” in the language of the native Californian Wappo tribe.

Dom Zind-Humb Gewurztraminer, $24
Sweet, but not too sweet with a little bit of spice to complement the big three: turkey, potatoes and stuffing.
