This time of year, your slow cooker is probably already working overtime making hearty soups and comfy casseroles, but did you know you can use it to make dessert too? Like this easy cobbler, for example. Throw all of the ingredients for it into the slow cooker in the afternoon and it will be hot and ready just in time for dessert!
One of the best things about this cobbler recipe (other than its flavor) is it only requires five ingredients: Betty Crocker Super Moist™ yellow cake mix, sugar, cinnamon, butter and, of course, apples.
First, combine the cake mix and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl and then add the cubed butter.
Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or two knives until it’s the size of small peas.
Next, peel the apples and slice them into 1/2-inch-thick slices.
Grease a large slow cooker and add the sliced apples, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon and sugar. Toss until everything is well combined.
Lastly, simply dump the cake mix mixture on top of the apple slices. Now your cobbler is ready to cook!
Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 2 ½ to 3 hours, or until the topping is slightly browned and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges. Slow cookers will vary from brand to brand, so start checking on your cobbler at the 2-hour mark.
Once it’s done, serve immediately and enjoy with a bit of whipped cream, if desired.
