Buttermilk Green Goddess Dressing

By Stephanie Wise

Just a few shakes in a jar is all it takes to make this popular herby dressing.

Sure, it’s convenient to buy bottled salad dressing from the grocery store, but there really is nothing like the taste of fresh, homemade dressing drizzled over your favorite salad. Even better when the dressing can be made with just a few shakes of a mason jar! I can’t get enough of the flavor of Green Goddess dressing. Have you ever tried it? It’s all sorts of savory with fresh herbs, anchovies and garlic, with a little tartness from lemon juice. This variation is also a bit sweet, thanks to the addition of buttermilk. Pour everything into a resealable jar, give it a shake and it’s ready for pouring. Get all of your ingredients ready. The hardest part about this recipe is the prep work – and by work, I mean you have to do just a few minutes of chopping and you’re good to go!

Mince the herbs – parsley, tarragon and chives – as finely as possible and place them in a jar that holds at least two cups. Because we’re not giving this a whir in the food processor, the herb pieces won’t get any smaller in the dressing, so you’ll want them to be very fine.

Add the remaining ingredients to the jar, including mayo, buttermilk, garlic, lemon juice and anchovy paste.

Seal the jar and give it a good shake.

Open up the jar and, if necessary, stir the ingredients with a spoon to break up any leftover lumps.
