I love banana bread in so many different ways: plain with a smear of soft butter, with lots of crunchy walnuts, a boozy hit of bourbon, or even with bittersweet chocolate chips strewn throughout. This Streusel Banana Bread may be my favorite version, though, since it combines the classic with a sweet, buttery, irresistible topping.
My favorite muffins always seem to include a healthy sprinkling of crunchy streusel, so why not my favorite banana bread? This cinnamon-laced, buttery streusel is near perfection on top of fragrant and moist banana bread, I am surprised I’ve never tried it before.
To start, we make a simple streusel topping with just a few ingredients: sugar, flour, cinnamon, and butter.
While the oven preheats, we assemble our ingredients for the batter. The dry mix comes together with just some flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt and cinnamon.
The wet mix begins with super-ripe and freckly bananas, plus, sugar, an egg, a bit of milk, vanilla and melted butter.
