Sounds like your sugar cookies might not be holding their shape when baked? Here are a couple of solutions to try: chill the dough for in the fridge for 30 minutes (or freeze for 15);roll, cut and bake a test cookie. If that doesn't work, you can add extra flour, about 1 tablespoon at a time, lightly stirring/kneading it into the dough so as not to make the baked cookies tough (you do't want to develop the gluten).
