Maple-Spice Crinkle Cookies

- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon maple extract
- 2 eggs
- 3 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2/3 cup white sparkling decorating sugar

Step1Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, beat brown sugar, butter and maple extract with electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy; scraping sides of bowl. Beat in eggs, one at a time, just until smooth. On low speed, beat in flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon and the salt until well mixed.

Step2In small bowl, mix remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon, the decorating sugar and nutmeg. Shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. For each cookie, place a ball into the sugar mixture spooning over the balls and rolling to coat. On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls about 2 inches apart.

Step3Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until cookies are light brown around the edges. Cool 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely.
