Easy and Quick Pepper Steak

By Inspired Taste
Created January 10, 2017
Put down the take out menu and make this easy Asian Pepper Steak recipe with beef, bell peppers and onion.

Did you know that many of our favorite take-out meals can easily (and quickly) be made at home? This pepper steak recipe is a great example. It only takes minutes to prep and less than 15 minutes to cook. Plus, since it won’t see one of those take out containers, it’s fresh.

To make pepper steak at home, you will first need to cut beef sirloin into thin strips. This makes sure the cooking goes quickly and the beef is tender when cooked.

Toss the beef strips in a little flour, salt and pepper. The flour makes sure that when we throw the beef into a hot pan, it will brown nicely and be extra flavorful.

Then, cook the beef until browned. Take it out then cook some sliced bell peppers and onions.

Add the beef back into the pan along with a little garlic then add the sauce, which is made up of soy sauce, sugar and a little toasted sesame oil.

Finally, for an extra pop of freshness, add a handful of halved cherry tomatoes.

That’s it. Serve over rice and enjoy!

    • 1lb beef top sirloin (about 1/2-inch thick), trimmed
    • 1tablespoon Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
    • 1/2teaspoon salt
    • 1/4teaspoon pepper
    • 2tablespoons vegetable oil
    • 2bell peppers, seeded, sliced
    • 1onion, sliced
    • 2cloves garlic, finely chopped
    • 1tablespoon packed brown sugar
    • 3tablespoons soy sauce
    • 2teaspoons toasted sesame oil
    • 12cherry tomatoes, halved
    • 1 1/2cups hot cooked rice
    • 1green onion, thinly sliced

Directions

  • 1Slice beef into thin 2-inch-long strips; place in medium bowl. Add flour, salt and pepper; toss until beef is coated with flour.
  • 2Heat wok or 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of the vegetable oil. Add beef; cook and stir 3 to 4 minutes or until browned. Remove beef from wok. Add remaining tablespoon vegetable oil, the bell peppers and onion; cook and stir 2 to 3 minutes or until vegetables begin to sweat.
  • 3Return beef to wok; add garlic. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • 4In small bowl, stir together brown sugar, soy sauce and sesame oil until brown sugar is dissolved.
  • 5Add sauce and cherry tomatoes to beef and vegetables; stir. Cook 2 to 3 minutes or until sauce is thickened, beef is cooked to desired doneness, and vegetables are tender.
  • 6Divide rice and pepper steak among 4 bowls. Top with green onion.
