I love dulce de leche and was excited to try Dulce de Leche Cheerios®, a new cereal from General Mills. Dulce de leche is a thick, caramel-like milk-based sauce or spread. Served in a bowl with milk, the cereal is crunchy, sweet and bursting with caramel flavor.
I thought the cereal would make a great addition to a layered bar that's a popular bake sale treat.
I love to experiment with old favorite recipes, like the popular bake sale bars layered with graham crackers, nuts and chocolate. I thought the caramel flavor of Dulce de Leche Cheerios would go perfectly with the graham cracker crust and chocolate chips. Plus, the saltiness of the pretzels complements the caramel and chocolate.
To make the bars, combine the butter, graham crackers and pecans in a mixing bowl. Press the mixture into your baking pan.
Layer the pretzels and Cheerios in the pan. Sprinkle with chocolate and white chocolate chips and then the coconut.
Take a can of sweetened condensed milk and pour over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Let cool and then cut into bars. Enjoy!
