Water, vegetable oil and whole eggs called for on cake mix boxes
2
tubs (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
2
cups pink or blue M&M's® candy-coated milk chocolate candies
1/4
cup pink or blue M&M's® minis candy-coated milk chocolate candies
3/4
cup assorted pink or blue candy sprinkles
Instructions
Step
1
Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Spray bottoms and sides of 2 (8-inch) round cake pans; line with cooking parchment paper. In large bowl, beat 1 box cake mix and ingredients called for on box with electric mixer on medium speed 2 minutes, scaping bowl occasionally. Divide evenly between pans. Bake as directed on box. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to cooling rack; remove parchment paper. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, mix and bake the second box of cake mix to make 2 more layers.
Step
2
Flatten cake layers by trimming off rounded tops. In 2 layers, cut small round out of center, using 4-inch round cutter.
Step
3
To assemble cake: Place 1 uncut cake layer on cake stand or serving platter; spread 1/3 cup frosting on top. Top with 1 layer with center removed; spread 1/3 cup frosting on top. Top with second layer with center removed; spread 1/3 cup frosting on top.
Step
4
In small bowl, mix chocolate candies and sprinkles. Fill cake with candy mixture. Gently press candies to level, top with full cake layer. Frost side and top of cake using remaining frosting. Store loosely covered.
Don’t have a 4-inch round cutter? Cut out a 4-inch circle of cooking parchment paper, and use it as a pattern.
This cake is filled with blue candies to represent a boy but to reveal that you are expecting a girl, simply fill the cake with pink candies.
Be sure to cool cake pans completely, then wash, dry and spray with cooking spray before baking the second cake mix.
