    Don’t let the cold weather and snow showers ruin your good time! Host a Winter Wonderland themed Cocktail and Dessert soiree!

    Invitations

    Get the party started early with “snowy” invitations! Send paper invitations and include white iridescent confetti in the envelope. You can find party confetti at any craft store. When your guests open their invites, they will be surprised with a mini snow shower! Add to the wintery-ness by requesting that everyone wear white! People love to dress up…at least my friends and I do!

    Desserts

    For a dessert themed party, you’ll want to serve a variety of options.  To keep your stress level low and your preparation easy, don’t make every dessert from scratch. Instead, try to use items you can assemble rather than bake.

    For example, serve donuts and milk shots. Fill shot glasses with milk and perch a powdered donut on top with a toothpick. Voila – cute presentation with minimal effort!

    People love anything on a stick! Use marshmallows, donut holes, cookies or bakery-bought cake pops to serve up a variety of delicacies on a stick!

    Another great option is to serve fondue. Instead of using regular chocolate, use white chocolate to keep with the wintery theme! Use pretzels, fruits and pieces of pound cake to dip in the chocolate. In my experience, there’s always a good time to be had around the fondue pot!

    Cocktails

    Imagine sitting around the fire, enjoying a powdered donut with a nice hot toddy…isn’t that a lovely image? You can make it happen by serving up delicious hot cocktails like hot buttered rum and this hot toddy.

    Why not set up a winter cocktail bar? Set out the fixings for white Russians or chai-tinis and let people get creative! Rim all the cocktail glasses with white sprinkles for a pretty presentation, and even skewer marshmallows on a cocktail stirrer instead of the typical olive garnish!

    Décor

    Do you have left over faux snow from Christmas? If so, make your tablescape a true winter wonderland by scattering the tufts of snow on the table. Your desserts and cocktails will look like they are floating on a cloud of snow! Make a centerpiece using branches (spray-painted white), tissue pom-pom balls or white flowers, or see what kind of winter decorations the stores have on clearance from the holidays.

    When the weather is frightful, you need a fireplace to combat the cold! Turn your fire on, and if you don’t have a fireplace, don’t fret! Try the “Yule Log,” a TV channel that is a burning fireplace on a constant loop!

    Just thinking about this wintery party makes me feel cozy! Hurry up and create your own winter wonderland before the season’s over!

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow creme
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups coconut

Instructions

    Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Place paper baking cup in each of 24 regular-size muffin cups. In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil, sour cream and eggs with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, then on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally.

    Spoon batter into muffin cups. Place 1 cube cream cheese in center of each cupcake; press down into batter almost to center (top of cream cheese will still show).

    Bake 21 to 27 minutes or until toothpick inserted near center of cupcake comes out clean (test between cream cheese and edge). Remove cupcakes from pan to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.

    In 2-quart stainless steel or other non-coated saucepan, mix sugar, water and egg whites. Cook over low heat, beating continuously with electric hand mixer at high speed until soft peaks form, about 4 minutes. Add marshmallow creme; beat until stiff peaks form. Remove saucepan from heat. Beat in vanilla.

    Spread frosting evenly over cupcakes; sprinkle each with generous tablespoonful coconut. Store loosely covered in refrigerator.
