Make colorful sushi that's sweet, fun for kids, and anything but fishy.

More About This Recipe

  • You probably don’t consider Fruit Roll-Ups fancy. But here’s a fun trick to turn the kids snacks in to a sophisticated garnish.

I stumbled across a lovely blog featuring Austin, TX weddings called the Austin Wedding Blog. They featured an easy tutorial for Fruit Roll-Up flowers to accessorize a cake or cupcakes. As soon as I saw these yummy treats, I wanted to make my own to adorn my favorite cupcakes – Confetti Cupcakes!

Have you tried the fun and colorful cupcake mix from Pillsbury? It’s a white cake with dots of color baked right in, and a matching colorful frosting. If you haven’t tried these, you are missing out! The confetti cupcakes were the perfect match for colorful fruit rollup flowers.

    How-To:

The fruit rollup flowers are quite easy. First step – unwrap a BUNCH of fruit rollups!

Depending on how large your circle cutter is, you can fit just one circle in a single rollup or several. I used a 2-inch cutter and a 1-inch cutter for a variation of sizes. Cut out as many circles as you need. It took me 4 circles per flower.

Next, you squeeze the middle of the circle and create 4 sections (see picture!). If you ever made a cootie catcher when you were younger, you know what I’m talking about!

After you’ve got 4 little ruffles made, stick the bottoms together.

Once you’ve ruffled the flowers appropriately, stick them in a newly frosted cupcake and you’re done! You have a yummy, colorful and creative cupcake that everyone will rave about!

The sky is the limit with these fruit rollup flowers; they’d be pretty on a cake, on a stick, on a frosted cookie…the list goes on and on! So the next time you want to jazz up a cupcake, try one of these fruity flowers!

    More fruit rollup fun!
