How to Make PEEPS® Chick Surprise-Inside Cupcakes

Easter surprises have never been so sweet! Bake up these festive Easter cupcakes, filled with colorful sprinkles and topped with a cheery PEEPS® chick.

What you’ll need: 

How to: 

1. Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Line 24 regular-size muffin cups with cupcake liners.

2. Make cake batter as directed on box. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups (about two-thirds full). Bake as directed on box for cupcakes. Cool in pans 10 minutes before transferring to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes. 

3. Using a melon baller, scoop out center of each cupcake, about 1-inch deep. Fill each with 1 heaping teaspoonful of candies.

4. Spoon frosting into medium bowl; stir in enough food color until desired green color. 

5. Frost cupcakes with frosting; sprinkle with colored sugar. 

6. Top with yellow PEEPS® chick. Store loosely covered.

Ingredients

    • 1box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
    • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
    • 1cup assorted mini candy-coated chocolate candies or confetti candy sprinkles
    • 1tub (16 oz) Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy Creamy White Frosting (or any white variety)
    • Green food color
    • Green colored decorating sugar
    • 24yellow PEEPS® brand marshmallow chicks

Directions

  • 1Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pans). Place paper baking cup in each of 24 regular-size muffin cups.
  • 2Make cake batter as directed on box. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups (about two-thirds full). Bake as directed on box for cupcakes. Cool in pans 10 minutes; remove from pans to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • 3Using melon baller, scoop out center of each cupcake, about 1 inch deep. Fill each with 1 heaping teaspoonful candies.
